Hertz sued over wreck in rental

GALVESTON - A Galveston County man has filed suit against a rental car company for allegedly lending a vehicle to a Dickinson resident who rear-ended him last year.

In a lawsuit filed June 15 in Galveston County Court No. 2, Terry Steadham says Hertz Vehicles LLC entrusted the vehicle in question to Charles Cunningham on June 22, 2009, when Cunningham struck the plaintiff from behind on Highway 146 shortly afterwards.

Steadham claims he consequently suffered personal injuries.

The suit faults Cunningham for failing to observe traffic rules and regulations and blames Hertz for renting out a car to whom court papers call "a reckless and incompetent driver."

Steadham seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Terry & Thweatt, P.C. is representing the plaintiff.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County Court No. 2 Judge C.G. "Trey" Dibrell III.
