Bridge City man claims apartment complex threw his gold on street

In the wake of Hurricane Ike, James Harrison alleges the owners of Harvest Apartments in Bridge City took all of his possessions out of his unit, allegedly including 20 pieces of gold and three big-screen TVs, "and threw them outside where the property was damaged and stolen."

Harrison filed suit against Harvest Apartments July 19 in Orange County District Court.

In his suit, Harrison says on Sept. 16, 2008, "in the wake of Ike, one of plaintiff's most stressful and vulnerable moments," Harvest threw out all of his possessions.

Some of the other possessions Harrison claims that were stolen or ruined include: a variety of 1930 German war artifacts, numchucks, his Corvette title and a Play Station 2 with more than 200 games.

Harrison' suit does not state why the complex threw out his property.

"Defendant wrongfully acquired ... plaintiff's property," the suit states. "A demand for the return on the property would have been useless. Plaintiff seeks unliquidated damages."

Harrison is accusing Harvest Apartments of violating the Theft Liability Act, trespassing and breach of contract.

He is suing of exemplary damages and attorney's fees.

Orange attorney Jim Bearden is representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Pat Clark, 128th Judicial District.
