Beaumont man sues red-light runner

A Beaumont resident claims she incurred medical costs after a driver disregarded a red light and struck her vehicle.

Rena Brooks filed a lawsuit Oct. 7 in Jefferson County District Court against Angel Vazquez and Timoteo Guerra.

Brooks claims she drove on 11th Street in Beaumont on Oct. 29 when Vazquez, who drove a vehicle Guerra owned, allegedly ignored a red light at the intersection of 11th Street and College, causing a collision with Brooks.

In addition to her medical costs, Brooks lost earnings and her earning capacity and sustained physical impairment, pain, mental anguish and disfigurement, according to the complaint. In addition, she incurred property damages, the suit states.

Brooks blames Vazquez for causing the collision, alleging he negligently failed to maintain control of his vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to obey a traffic-control device.

In her complaint, Brooks seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Jonathan C. Juhan of Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
