League City woman sues over fatal crash

GALVESTON - After her husband was killed in a three-car crash two years ago, a League City woman has filed suit against one of the motorists allegedly involved.

In a lawsuit filed Nov. 5 in Galveston County District Court, Pamela Minks claims that Shannon Sweeney of League City triggered the Nov. 28, 2008, collision that claimed the life of David Minks.

David Minks was traveling in the 100 block of Main Street in League City when Sweeney rear-ended a vehicle driven by Vu F. Le, the original complaint states. The collision caused Le's car to strike Minks' vehicle.

David Minks suffered severe back and heart-related problems, including an exacerbation of a pre-existing cardiac condition and cardiac stint.

David Minks died from his injuries, according to the complaint.

Sweeney is faulted for negligently reducing her speed and failing to keep a safe distance between her and the vehicle that was in front of her.

Le is not a defendant in the suit.

Pamela Minks seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

She is represented by attorney Stephen J. Mescall of Baytown.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox.
