Doctor accused of rape sues for slander

Dugas

An area physician is suing a Nederland woman, claiming the woman tarnished his reputation and hurt him financially by openly accusing him of rape.

Alleging libel and slander, Dr. Nidal Buheis filed suit against Georgeanne Turk on Jan. 10 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, Turk made statements to various members of the public, including those in the Jefferson County medical profession, that Dr. Buheis raped her.

"Those statements constitute libel, statutory libel and slander because they injured plaiintiff's reputation and exposed him to public hatred, contempt, ridicule and financial injury," the suit states, adding that Turk's claims also impeached Buheis' integrity.

In his suit, Buheis contends that the "truth is Turk engaged in consensual sex with him."

"Defendant is turning her disreputable and dishonest behavior to her advantage by defaming and slandering the good name of plaintiff," the suit states.

Buheis is seeking an award of exemplary damages and all court costs.

He is represented by Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
