Jefferson County man sues over auto crash

A Jefferson County man has filed suit against the driver he claims caused a collision.

Lawrence Leger claims he was driving in Jefferson County District Court on March 16, 2009, when defendant Sarah Wells, struck his vehicle.

Because of the collision, Leger incurred medical costs, lost his earnings and suffered physical impairment, physical pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint filed Feb. 9 in Jefferson County District Court.

Wells negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, lacked proper control of his vehicle and failed to timely apply his brakes, the suit states.

In his complaint, Leger is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Chris Portner and J. Trenton Bond of Portner and Bond in Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned by Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
