Collection agency sues to recover $24K credit card debt

Palisades Collection has filed suit against Beaumont resident Wilma Hankins, claiming the woman owes more than $24,000 on a past due credit card account.

The suit was filed March 25 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records allege Hankins opened a credit card account with First USA but has ceased making payments.

The debt was turned over to Palisades Collection, who sent Hankins a letter demanding payment on Jan. 3.

"As of March 8, there continued to be ... an unpaid balance of $20,822.48 and accrued interest of $3,605.31," the suit states.

Palisades Collection alleges the defendant breached her contract and is suing to recover actual and consequential damages, plus attorney's fees.

The company is represented by Carrollton attorney Michael Scott.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
