Rear-end collision at stop sign subject of lawsuit

Two years ago, Long Nguyen allegedly rear-ended fellow Beaumont resident Steve Caldwell, who was stopped at a stop sign.

On April 15 Caldwell filed suit against Nguyen in Jefferson County District Court, alleging the defendant negligently failed to keep a proper lookout.

According to the lawsuit, on April 16, 2009, Caldwell was stopped at a stop sign somewhere in Jefferson County when Nguyen "failed to stop, rear-ending his vehicle and" causing him injuries.

The suit also accuses Nguyen of negligently failing to avoid the collision and apply his brakes in time.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Brett Thomas of Roebuck, Thomas, Roebuck & Adams represents him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
