Groves man files suit over wreck

A Groves man has filed suit against the driver who he claims failed to yield the right-of-way, causing a collision.

Ivan Frederick claims he was driving north on Martin Luther King Boulevard in Beaumont on Feb. 25 when defendant Edward E. Romero failed to yield the right-of-way and struck his vehicle without warning.

Because of the collision, Frederick incurred medical costs and experienced extreme physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment, according to the complaint filed July 7 in Jefferson County District Court.

Romero negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to yield the right-of-way and drove inattentively, the suit states.

In his complaint, Romero is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

James E. Payne and Ronnie Turner Jr. of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.

Case No. A190-464
