A Beaumont woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims backed into her vehicle, allegedly causing her to sustain cervical neck pain, lumbar back pain, left shoulder pain and headaches.
Linda Corbin claims she was stopped at the intersection of Florida and West Cardinal Drive in Beaumont behind defendant Melissa Gann, who was driving a vehicle for defendant Texas State University System.
Suddenly, Corbin noticed Gann beginning to back up, so Corbin honked her horn at Gann, according to the complaint filed July 13 in Jefferson County District Court. However, Gann continued to reverse directions and proceeded to strike Corbin's vehicle, the suit states.
In addition to her injuries, Corbin incurred medical costs and experienced physical pain, suffering and mental anguish, the complaint says.
She blames Gann for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to avoid the incident in question and failed to drive in a reasonable manner.
She also names Texas State University System as a defendant, saying it negligently failed to establish a system of driver safety for its employees and negligently entrusted its vehicle to Gann.
In her complaint, Corbin is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal rate, actual damages and other relief the court deems just.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
