Plaintiff wins $48K verdict in car wreck trial

A Jefferson County jury recently awarded plaintiff Mary Zeno, who sued Rogelio Aguilar for rear-ending her, more than $48,000 in damages.

The trial of Zeno vs. Aguilar began July 25 in Judge Milton Shuffield's 136th District Court and ended two days later.

According to the charge of the jury, jurors were not asked to assign any negligence and were only asked to give the dollar amounts that would compensate Zeno for her injuries.

Jurors awarded Zeno $38,675 in medical expenses and additional $10,000 for her mental anguish and physical pain.

Court records show that Zeno filed her suit against Aguilar on May 18, 2009.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 16, 2008, Aguilar was traveling east on Highway 365 when he rear-ended Zeno, who was stopped at a red light.

The collision pushed Zeno's vehicle into the vehicle stopped in front of her.

Zeno is represented by Beaumont attorney David LaRue of Loncar & Associates.

Beaumont attorney Kimberly Spurlock represents Aguilar.
