While stopping for a red light, area resident Phillip Spence claims Port Arthur local Nga Tran rear-ended him.

Seeking more than $50,000 in damages, Spence filed suit against Tran on Aug. 9 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Sept. 19, 2009, Spence was traveling south on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Beaumont and had stopped at a red light at the intersection at Washington Boulevard when Tran rear-ended him.

The suit states Tran was cited for failing to control his speed.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Grodon Friesz of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele & Chatelain in Port Arthur represents him.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
