Worker injured at Pleasure Pier construction site files lawsuit

GALVESTON - La Marque resident Krisean J. Johnson is suing a number of individuals and entities, including local businessman Tilman Fertitta, after he reportedly sustained injuries while working on the site of the Pleasure Pier in Galveston.

Johnson alleges he fell from a ladder leading down to the work area, according to a lawsuit filed Sept. 12 in Galveston County District Court against Epoxy Design Systems, Staff on Site of Houston/Peterson Ventures Inc., Patrick Taylor, Mike McCracklin, Brad and Rose Rhotom and an individual referred to as "Troy," in addition to Fertitta.

The incident occurred Aug. 8 at the site of the recently-demolished Flagship Hotel in preparation for construction of Fertitta's Pleasure Pier.

According to the original petition, the Johnson was descending the ladder and was about halfway down when he lost his footing and fell.

"All I remember is hoping that I would not fall in the water and then I lost consciousness," Johnson says.

"When I woke up, people were all around me asking if I was alright."

In the suit, Johnson states he was on the ground and was unable to move his legs and experienced numbness in his right arm. "[S]ome time passed and then I recall being given some sort of medication," he states.

He was then taken to the nearby University of Texas Medical Branch.

The suit cites four causes of action against the defendants.

Johnson will be acting as his own attorney in the litigation.

Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox is presiding over the case.
