Beaumont lawyer Daniel Clayton has filed a lawsuit against the Jefferson County Appraisal District and the Appraisal Review Board of Jefferson County on Sept. 15.
In his suit, Clayton says he requested an appearance before the appraisal review board to have his Jefferson County property reevaluated. On Aug. 5 the board notified him there was no change in their decision.
"Plaintiff will demonstrate that ... the appraisal value of plaintiff's properties ... are wanton and unlawful," the suit states. "Plaintiff therefore exercises its statutory right to appeal pursuant to Section 42.01 of the Property Tax Code."
Clayton is asking the court to reduce the property values to the correct amounts.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
