East Texas car dealership sued for sexual harassment

Cowger

SHERMAN - After 10 years of employment with an east Texas car dealership, a saleswoman has filed a lawsuit claiming her civil rights have been violated due to pervasive sexual insults and harassments by her supervisor.

Mary Camp filed suit against Bonham C-P-D-J-E Inc. on Oct. 20 in the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.

Camp began her employment with Bonham Chrysler in October 2001 as a salesperson. She resigned from that position in January due to the alleged sexual harassment, the suit states.

Camp claims the work environment with the defendant was pleasant until 2005 when Bonham Chrysler named a new sales manager. According to the allegations, the new sales manager subjected Camp to crude, vulgar sexual insults and slurs, in the presence of other employees and in the presence of customers.

"Ms. Camp resigned from Bonham Chrysler in late January 2011 because her working conditions had become so intolerable as a result of the sexual harassment directed at her that a reasonable person in her position would have felt compelled to resign," the lawsuit states.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for physical injury, mental distress, shock, humiliation, back pay, medical expenses, front pay, pain and suffering, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, attorney's fees, court costs and interest.

A jury trial is requested.

Camp is represented by Walter S. Cowger of Law Office of Walter S. Cowger in Dallas and Clay A. Hartmann of The Hartmann Firm in Dallas.

U.S. District Judge Richard A. Schell is assigned to the case.
