Discovery has begun in litigation brought by Katherine Welch, who contends that she needs plastic surgery after Jessie Peterson Jr.'s pit bull bit her in the face.

Welch filed suit against Peterson, a Port Neches resident, on Sept. 14 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show that on Nov. 15 Welch filed a certificate of written discovery, stating that she had served Peterson with her responses to his request for disclosure.

The suit states that the alleged attack occurred on Aug. 19, 2011.

"Plaintiff was bitten in the face and will require plastic surgery," the suit states, adding that Peterson negligently caused the incident by failing to restrain the pit bull.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Dan Ducote Jr. of Moore Landrey represents her.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
