Wal-Mart stockers pushed boxes on customer, suit alleges

While shopping at Wal-Mart, Beaumont resident Donna Patterson claims boxes fell from the shelves, causing her "catastrophic injuries."

Seeking damages for her alleged medical expenses and mental anguish, Patterson filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Texas on Jan. 9 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to her lawsuit, on Feb. 15, 2010, Patterson was shopping at the Beaumont Wal-Mart when boxes started falling off a shelf, "causing (her) to fall hard to the floor."

The suit claims Wal-Mart employees were stocking shelves on the adjacent isle at the time of the incident.

Patterson further alleges in her claim that the retailer failed to warn her of the danger and had a duty to protect shoppers.

She is also suing for her alleged past and future, pain impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Jonathan Juhan represents her.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
