GALVESTON - Luke Meyers claims W&T Offshore is to blame for a foot injury he sustained on one of its vessels, according to recent court documents.
A lawsuit filed Jan. 31 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 3 claims a 70-pound block fell on the plaintiff's foot on May 23 as he was working aboard the West Cam 610, a vessel owned and operated by W&T Offshore.
According to the original complaint, a cable snapped on one of the rig's cranes and sent the block falling toward Meyers.
Meyers claims he had previously notified W&T about changing the cable, "and apparently no action was taken in that regard."
The suit states "the impact was so severe, that muscle and skin was blown out the side of the plaintiff's foot." Meyers claims he had to undergo multiple surgeries and will require more procedures in the future.
"The plaintiff will live the remainder of his life with a severely impaired limb," the suit states.
W&T Offshore is faulted for failing to train its employees; failing to inspect, maintain and repair equipment; failing to maintain a safe work environment; failing to provide appropriate medical attention and failing to warn the plaintiff.
Consequently, Meyers seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
