Judge dismisses slip & fall filed against Judice's French Market

Following 11 months of litigation, a Beaumont judge recently dismissed Judice's French Market & Deli from a slip-and-fall lawsuit.

As previously reported, Port Arthur resident Uyvonne Woodard filed suit against Judice's French Market & Deli on March 31 in Jefferson County District Court, alleging she slipped and fell while shopping.

Court records show that on Jan. 30 Woodard filed a motion to dismiss cause of action, asserting that she had reached a settlement with the market.

That same day, Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, granted the motion, dismissing Judice's French Market with prejudice.

The suit alleges that on April 1, 2009, Woodard was shopping at the Port Arthur store. She was attempting to retrieve an item from a freezer when she "slipped on a clear, oily, liquid foreign substance on the floor and fell hard to the floor."

Woodard clamed emergency personnel were needed to remove her from the store.

She was suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Bellaire attorney Travis Evans represented her.
