Area resident Juan Zuniga has filed a slip-and-fall lawsuit against La Morenita Meat Market.

The suit was filed Feb. 27 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Jan. 30, 2011, Zuniga was proceeding into the Port Arthur store when he slipped and fell on a wet substance on the floor.

The suit alleges the defendant knew of the dangerous condition and failed to prevent the plaintiff from being injured.

The suit further alleges the defendant negligently failed to post warning signs and maintain its premises.

Zuniga is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Attorney John Werner of the Beaumont law firm Reaud, Morgan & Quinn represents him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, is assigned to the case.
