H-J ISD sues couple over unpaid property taxes

The Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District has filed suit against a Beaumont man and woman who have failed to pay more than $5,000 in property taxes.

Steve E. and Kathleen McAdams of 1823 Moore Road in Beaumont failed to pay $5,249.79 for their 2009 through 2011 property taxes, according to the complaint the school district filed March 12 in Jefferson County District Court. They also refused to make a $175 payment for a title research fee, the suit states.

The school district has placed a lien on the Moore Road property because of the McAdams' failure to pay taxes, the complaint says.

In its complaint, the Hardin-Jefferson Independent School District asks the court to foreclose on the tax lien and to enter a judgment for the delinquent taxes, penalties, interest, attorney's fees and costs, plus other relief the court deems just.

Shelburne J. Veselka of McCreary, Veselka, Bragg and Allen in Round Rock will be representing it.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Case No. D192-174
