Seaman slips and sues Omega Protein

Seaman Steven Folts has filed a Jones Act suit against Omega Protein, alleging it was the company's fault he slipped on oil.

The suit was filed May 8 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Aug. 1 Folts was employed by Omega Protein and serving aboard the Timbailer Bay when he slipped on oil and hydraulic fluids, injuring his head and neck.

Although the suit does not state what Folts was doing at the time of his injury, the suit does allege the defendant negligently failed maintain the vessel and supervise the crew.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Houston attorney Kurt Arnold of Arnold & Itkin represents the plaintiff.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
