A Port Arthur woman claims she incurred medical costs after a driver failed to keep a proper lookout and struck her vehicle.

Edna Wilkinson filed a lawsuit May 4 in Jefferson County District Court against Vickie Marie Lynch.

In her complaint, Wilkinson claims she was driving east on Highway 365 in Port Arthur on Sept. 22 when Lynch, who was driving south on Highway 365, failed to yield the right-of-way and attempted to turn left onto Sassine Avenue.

"While making the turn, Plaintiff vehicle struck the right side of Defendant's vehicle," the suit states.

In addition to her medical costs, Wilkinson experienced physical pain, suffering, physical impairment, disfigurement and mental anguish, the complaint says.

Wilkinson blames Lynch for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to turn her vehicle to the right to avoid a collision, failed to provide Wilkinson with at least half of the roadway and drove too fast, among other negligent acts.

In her complaint, Wilkinson is seeking a judgment for damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the highest rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Trent Devenzio of Branick, Walston and Devenzio in Nederland will be representing her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
