Santa Fe resident sues over wreck with teen driver

Aldous

GALVESTON - Santa Fe resident Frank Jacob Steinbach is suing a Pearland teenager over a two-vehicle accident last year, recent court documents say.

A lawsuit filed June 1 in Galveston County District Court claims a vehicle driven by then-16-year-old Jason Poplin rear-ended that of the plaintiff at a traffic stop along Highway 6 on July 5, 2011.

The original petition says Steinbach was waiting behind a red 2005 Ford which was stopped at a light when the incident occurred.

According to the suit, the defendant drove a 1999 Ford Explorer into the rear of Steinbach's vehicle, forcing it to hit the vehicle in front.

Police then arrived on the scene, conducted an investigation and cited Popln for failure to control speed. He told the investigating officer that the wreck was caused by the improper function of the brakes on his vehicle, the suit says.

Steinbach adds he sustained injuries which required medical treatment at a nearby emergency room and a chiropractic clinic in Galveston.

Dennis Poplin, also of Pearland, is a co-defendant in the suit since he presumably owned the Explorer in the collision.

The plaintiff consequently seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

Attorney Michael L. Aldous of Santa Fe is representing Steinbach.

Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox is presiding over the case.
