Bank sues Beaumont man over $15,000 debt

DeGrasse

A bank claims a Beaumont man has failed to repay a loan of more than $15,000.

American Express Bank filed a lawsuit June 13 in Jefferson County District Court against Dan Slankard.

In its complaint, American Express alleges it made cash advances to Slankard, either as actual cash or in the form of payments to third parties for purchases made by Slankard. In return, Slankard agreed to repay the money, according to the complaint.

However, American Express has not received payments from Slankard, the suit states.

"The current balance due, owing and unpaid under the agreement, after allowing all just and lawful payments, credits and offsets, totals $15,201.65," the complaint says.

American alleges unjust enrichment against Slankard.

In addition to the money it says Slankard owes it, American Express seeks attorney's fees, costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

Donald D. DeGrasse of DeGrasse and Rolnick in Houston will be representing it.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
