Grocery store meat wrapper sues for sexual harassment

TYLER - A grocery store meat wrapper has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the store claiming she was subjected to unwanted advances by her supervisor.

Cindy Wallace filed suit against Brookshire Grocery Co. on June 20 in the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.

Wallace was hired as a cashier and photo lab technician in January 2001 at Brookshire's Kilgore location. She was transferred to the Gladewater location in January 2011. She claims at this location she was subjected to numerous advances by her supervisor.

The day after complaining about the hostile work environment on April 7, 2011, Wallace was terminated for insubordination.

The defendant is accused of violating Wallace's civil rights, for sexual harassment, hostile work environment harassment and retaliation.

The plaintiff is asking the court for an award of actual and liquidated damages for back pay, reimbursement for lost pension, insurance, and front pay, compensatory damages for mental anguish and emotional distress, punitive damages, exemplary damages, interest, attorney's fees and court costs.

Wallace is represented by Nasin Ahmad and Delana Cline of Cline Ahmad in The Woodlands. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Michael H. Schneider is assigned to the case.
