Two Beaumont residents have filed suit against the allegedly intoxicated driver who they claim violently collided with their vehicle.

Gaspar and Olga Lugo filed suit against Luis G. Ruis, also known as Luis A. Gama, on Aug. 21 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the suit, Gaspar Lugo was driving on June 4, 2011, with Olga Lugo riding as a passenger when defendant Gama violently collided with their vehicle.

Because of the collision, the Lugos incurred medical costs, experienced mental anguish and disfigurement, lost wages and experienced pain and suffering, the suit claims.

Gama negligently failed to control his speed, drove too fast, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep a safe distance between his vehicle and Lugos', failed to swerve to avoid a collision, failed to bring his vehicle to a stop before causing a collision, drove while intoxicated and failed to timely apply his brakes among other negligent acts, the suit states.

In their complaint, the Lugos are seeking actual damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Jason L. Cansler of The Law Offices of Jason L. Cansler in Beaumont will be representing them.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
