A Beaumont woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign and struck her vehicle.
Karla Sanchez claims she was driving east in the 1200 block of Buford Street in Beaumont on May 29 when defendant Roy Barfield failed to yield at a stop sign and struck her vehicle.
Because of the collision, Sanchez sustained back and neck injuries, suffered severe pain, incurred medical costs and has been unable to pick up her children and properly care for them, according to the complaint filed Oct. 4 in Jefferson County District Court. She also experienced mental anguish, suffering and disability; lost her enjoyment of life and her earning capacity; and endured physical impairment, the suit states.
Sanchez blames Barfield for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to yield the right-of-way, drove inattentively and drove while distracted.
In her complaint, Sanchez is seeking damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
