HOUSTON - Harris County resident Maria M. Nava has filed suit against APR Acquisitions Inc. after it allegedly fired her for complaining about discrimination.

A lawsuit filed Oct. 22 in the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division explains that Nava faced mistreatment because of her gender and national origin while she was employed with the defendant.

The company, doing business as Double Eagle Sports & Events II LLC, engaged in retaliatory acts upon learning that she made a report, the suit says.

Nava worked as the respondent's human resources manager at the time of the events in question.

She claims the defendant paid her and her female colleagues lesser than their male counterparts, stating the men also were promoted more rapidly and recognized much more frequently.

The suit adds Nava, who is of Hispanic descent, and others like her were not offered insurance as well as not invited to company functions.

APR "gave no further explanation" as to why the complainant and the Hispanic employees were left out, the original petition says.

Nava unsuccessfully filed grievances as the defendant purportedly sought revenge against her before ultimately firing her on grounds she has a criminal background.

According to the suit, men with similar criminal histories were retained.

Consequently, Nava seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
