HOUSTON - Alleging Remedy Intelligent Staffing and Shell E&P Co. discriminated against her because she was pregnant, Kenah D. Alford has filed a lawsuit.

Court papers filed Dec. 21 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas assert that the defendants denied Alford a raise on grounds she was "pregnant and will be going on maternity leave."

Alford applied with Remedy Staffing on May 26, 2010, and was contracted to work at Shell as a service entry administrator in the Cost Management Team Performance and Business Improvement Department a month later.

The suit shows the plaintiff was promoted in late 2010 and had received numerous raises totaling around $4,300 between that time and last May.

June Alford claims she requested for a raise and a review of her job performance, but was informed she would not be receiving either because she was pregnant and would soon be taking leave to give birth.

According to the original petition, Remedy was notified about the issue at hand but "took no further action" as well as "made no remarks" regarding the purported denial of the raise.

A jury trial is requested.
