Huey and Therese Lovelady have brought a toxic tort claim against 26 defendant companies.

The suit was filed Jan. 25 in Jefferson County District Court.

The defendants named in the suit include Atlantic Richfield, BP Amoco, BP North America, BP Products, Beazer East, Bridgestone Americas Tire, Canadianoxy Offshore Production, Chevron, Chevron Phillips, Chevron U.S.A., E.I. DuPont De Nemours, ExxonMobil, General Electric, Goodrich, Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Gulf Oil, Honeywell International, Huntsman Petrochemical, Pharmacia, PPG Industries, Texaco, Total Petrochemicals, Union Oil, Uniroyal, United States Steel and Wyeth Holdings.

According to the lawsuit, Huey was exposed to harmful chemicals, like benzene, throughout his laborer career.

“As a direct and proximate result of defendants’ tortious conduct, Huey Lovelady developed myelodysplastic syndrome,” the suit states.

The suit alleges the defendants knew of the dangers yet still exposed workers to the harmful chemical without warning.

Huey is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and disfigurement.

The plaintiffs are also suing for exemplary damages.

Beaumont attorney Tina Bradley of Hobson & Bradley represents them.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
