Toyota Motor Credit Corp. had its motion for default judgment granted in a suit against Beaumont resident Iketha Saunders, which alleged she has possession of collateral on a past due account of more than $33,000.
As previously reported, the suit was filed Feb. 1, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court.
A month later, Toyota filed a motion for default judgment on March 21, 2012, stating that the defendant failed to file a timely answer, court papers say.
A week later, Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, granted the motion, awarding Toyota possession of the vehicle in question.
The lawsuit alleged that on Aug. 1, 2008, Elizabeth Calhoun, now deceased, entered into a motor vehicle retail installment sales contract.
As of Jan. 4, 2012, the amount owing was $33,072.96.
The suit says Saunders is related to Calhoun and currently has possession of the collateral.
