A woman is suing a Beaumont dentist, alleging she now suffers from nerve damage.
Elizabeth Smith filed her suit against Katherine Triska, D.D.S., on March 28 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, in January 2011 Smith presented to Triska’s office for endodontic therapy. On April 6, 2011, Triska allegedly administered excessive amounts of calcium hydroxide to the surgical site, causing the substance to penetrate the mandibular canal.
The suit alleges Smith’s nerves were damaged, resulting in pain, numbness and paraesthesia on the left side of her face. The tooth was pulled due to fracture.
“Smith continues to have no feeling or sensation in the front lower part of her face or lips on the left side,” the suit states, adding that the nerve damage is most likely permanent.
Smith alleges Triska failed to exercise the requisite degree of skill.
She is suing for her pain, medical expenses and impairment.
