Ensnared lanyard results in suit against ConocoPhillips

Alleging a lanyard on his safety harness got snared and caused his back to wrench backwards, Rodrick Gatlin has filed suit against ConocoPhillips and Englobal U.S. for failing to supervise him.

The suit was filed June 4 in Jefferson County District Court and seeks more than $100,000 in damages.

According to the lawsuit, on June 15, 2012, Gatlin, while working on a premises controlled by the defendants, was caused injury when the lanyard system to his safety harness became ensnared on a walking surface, causing him to fall back and wrench his back.

The suit alleges the walking surface should have not been designed in a way to ensnare workers working.

The suit further accuses the defendants of negligently failing to warn Gatlin of the unsafe condition and adequately train and supervise him.

On top of exemplary and actual damages, the plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.

He is represented by Beaumont attorney Gilbert T. Adams III.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
