Family of Alvin man killed in Friendswood accident files lawsuit

Todd jeffrey

GALVESTON - The estate of a 45-year-old Alvin man killed in a motorcycle accident last month has initiated legal action.

Kourtney Russell, widow of the late Lance Philip Russell, and their son, Christopher, are suing Friendswood local Yong-Fang Kuo in response to the May 23 incident.

The lawsuit was filed June 12 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 2.

Court papers show Lance Russell was operating his motorcyle westbound on West Parkwood Avenue in Friendswood when the alleged wreck occurred.

The decedent conducted a left hand turn on an unprotected green signal light at the intersection of West Parkwood and Moore Road when Kuo, who was traveling eastbound on the same roadway, failed to yield the right of way, the original petition says.

According to the suit, Lance Russell ultimately collided with Kuo's vehicle, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

Kuo is faulted for:

  • Failing to comply with an applicable official traffic control device;

  • Failing to keep a proper lookout;

  • Failing to timely apply his brakes; and

  • Failing to make turning movements that would have prevented the accident.

Consequently, Lance Russell's surviving relatives seek unspecified monetary damages.

They are represented by attorney Jeffrey N. Todd of The Law Firm of Alton C. Todd in Friendswood.

Galveston County Court-at-Law No. 2 Judge Barbara Roberts is presiding over the litigation.
