Kilgore business sued for illegally showing 2010 UFC fight

TYLER - A Kilgore business is being sued for violating federal law by de-scrambling a satellite signal and showing a July 2010 Ultimate Fighting Championship match for financial gain.

Joe Hand Promotions Inc. filed suit against Wendy Leroy, individually and as officer and principal of Corner Pocket on June 28 in the Eastern District of Texas, Tyler Division.

The plaintiff claims it was granted the right to distribute the "UFC 116: Lesnar v. Carwin Broadcast," including all undercard bouts and the entire television broadcast, scheduled for July 3, 2010. The fight was broadcast via closed circuit television and via encrypted satellite signal.

The defendants are accused of violating the Federal Communications Act and conversion by unlawfully intercepting, receiving or de-scrambling the satellite signal and exhibiting the broadcast for commercial advantage for private financial gain.

Joe Hand Promotions is seeking an award of statutory damages and penalties, compensatory damages, attorney’s fees, interest and court costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Jamie King and Seth A. Nichamoff of Nichamoff & King P.C. in Houston.
