Beaumont seeks repayment of loan in default

The city of Beaumont claims a Port Arthur man owes it more than $30,000 after a company defaulted on a loan.

The city filed a lawsuit Aug. 9 in Jefferson County District Court against Charles C. Ryan Jr.

In its complaint, Beaumont alleges it lent $30,000 to LinMarie Garsee on Oct. 27, 1995, which was supposed to be repaid over a five-year period. Ryan guaranteed repayment of the note, according to the complaint.

Since then, Garsee defaulted on the payments, the suit states. Ryan also failed to make the required monthly payments, the complaint says.

In addition to the $30,000 Beaumont claims Ryan owes it, the city seeks $6,112.90 in attorney’s fees and $31,128.99 in interest. It also seeks other relief the court deems just.

Quentin D. Price of Beaumont will be representing it.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
