Terminated truck driver fights for job reinstatement

HOUSTON - Harris County resident Jimmie Williams initiated legal action against his former employer after it allegedly fired him for a medical condition that caused him to faint.

Recent court papers filed Aug. 27 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas accuse J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. of refusing to reinstate Williams despite documented medical clearance.

J.B. Hunt employed the plaintiff as a truck driver.

According to the lawsuit, Williams suffered from the condition in question in May 2010.

Said condition caused him to "temporarily cough for an extended period of time and caused him to faint," the suit says.

Williams adds he took time off to seek treatment only to return to work lacking a job.

He was reported to have had a heart catheterization and an electrophysiology that yielded "normal" test results.

Despite a physician's certification that he is fit to work, the suit says, "the defendant again refused to place the plaintiff back in the job" and ultimately terminated him.

A jury trial is requested.

Attorney Nasim Ahmad of Cline Ahmad is representing the complainant.
