A notice of removal was recently filed in litigation brought by Beaumont local Edalynn Roper, who sued Wal-Mart Stores for slip and fall injuries.

As previously reported, the suit was filed April 11 in Jefferson County District Court.

Wal-Mart answered the suit two weeks later, asserting a general denial court records show.

On May 13 a notice of removal was filed in the case, showing the case was now in federal court.

According to the lawsuit, on April 18, 2011, Roper was shopping at the Beaumont Wal-Mart when she stepped on a liquid substance on the floor.

The suit accuses Wal-Mart of negligently permitting the floor to become slippery and failing to inspect and maintain its premises.

Seeking more than $100,000 in damages, Roper is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain and lost wages.

Attorney John Parsons of the Beaumont law firm Lindsay, Lindsay & Parsons represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, was assigned to the case.
