Nurse claims back hurt trying to keep patient from sliding off table

While trying to hold on to a patient that was about to slide off a surgical table, Lynda Gore, a surgical nurse, claims she hurt her back.

On Sept. 17 Gore filed suit against Mid County Anesthesia and its employee, Linda Sanders, in Jefferson County District Court, seeking damages for her injury.

According to the lawsuit, on Jan. 23, 2012, defendant Sanders was instructed by a surgeon to raise a surgical table. Rather than raising the table, the suit alleges Sanders mistakenly pushed a button that caused the table to lift the patient away from Gore.

“Plaintiff struggled to hold onto the patient to prevent the patient from sliding off the table while defendant Sanders got the table leveled out,” the suit states. “In doing so, plaintiff injured her back and body in general.”

The suit alleges the defendants violated their duty of care owed to plaintiff and that Sanders negligently failed to familiarize herself with the table prior to commencing surgery.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.

Attorney B. Adam Terrell of Weller, Green, Toups and Terrell in Beaumont represents the plaintiff.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, is assigned to the case.
