Attorney General Abbott commends employee for being named 2014 Outstanding Government Lawyer

AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today praised a current employee of the Attorney General’s Office for being named the 2014 Outstanding Government Lawyer. Assistant Attorney General Linda Halpern received the Government Law Section of the State Bar’s award today after being nominated by her peers.

“Linda Halpern represents the best the Attorney General’s Office has to offer,” Attorney General Abbott said. “Anyone who knows Linda can attest to her legal acumen, commitment to her clients’ needs, and dedication to her job. Linda is not only an outstanding lawyer, but an outstanding public servant as well.”

Linda joined the agency as an Assistant Attorney General in 2001 and has played a key role in some of the State’s most challenging cases – such as the Frew Medicaid case and the public school finance litigation. She served for several years as deputy chief of the Civil Medicaid Fraud Division before assuming her current role as manager of complex litigation in 2012.

Beau Eccles, chief of the General Litigation Division and Linda’s supervisor, stated: “The 2014 Outstanding Government Lawyer Award is a testament to the extremely high caliber of Linda’s work – combined with the faith and zeal she inspires in the clients who took it upon themselves to nominate her.”

Since 2011, the Government Law Section of the State Bar of Texas has presented the Outstanding Government Lawyer Award in recognition of an outstanding government lawyer who has provided exemplary service to the profession and the public. Nominees should exemplify the ideals of dedication, professionalism and ethics in service that have benefited the public or a governmental entity. Linda Halpern received the award today during the Government Law Section’s Suing & Defending Governmental Entities Boot Camp in Austin.
