A family is suing a logging company and truck driver after a collision killed a man.
Clarice Dickerson, et al filed a lawsuit Feb. 7 in the Jefferson County District Court against Jarrell Logging Inc., et al, citing negligence.
According to the complaint, on Dec. 6, Kenneth Dickerson Sr. was driving a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on FM 2991.
At that time, Brandon Mathews was operating a 2014 Mack tractor truck owned by Danny Jerrell, pulling a 1997 pole trailer owned by Jarrell Logging, which was loaded with cut logs.
The complaint states Mathews drove his truck and trailer from a logging road across both lanes of traffic on FM 2991 and stopped the truck facing northbound on the right shoulder of the southbound lane.
According to the complaint, Mathews stopped the truck in a spot that had a hill in one direction and a curve in the other direction, and the road was wet because of foggy rain.
The complaint says as Dickerson Sr. approached the area where Mathews had stopped, he collided with the the truck, causing severe injuries from which he died from on Dec. 21.
The plaintiffs are seeking damages in excess of $1 million.
