A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he sustained injuries in a car accident.

Russell Brister filed a lawsuit July 29 in the Jefferson County District Court against John Brown and the city of Beaumont, citing negligence.

Brister claims on March 19, 2012, he was traveling westbound on 1900 College St. in Beaumont, when the defendant Brown crashed into his car, resulting in Brister sustaining injuries.

The suit alleges the defendant was working for the city and checking his computer for calls and not paying attention to the traffic around him, causing the accident.

Brister is seeking damages, interest and court costs.

He is being represented in the case by Jefferson County attorney R. Kent Livesay.
