Port Arthur attorney Langston Adams has been appointed to serve out the term of late Judge John Paul Davis in Jefferson County Court at Law No. 3.
The Jefferson County Commissioners Court unanimously selected Adams on Feb. 24.
Adams will serve until the end of the year and voters will elect a new judge in November.
Adams, 39, who his friends call the “busiest man at the Beaumont courthouse,” operates a law practice out of Port Arthur, where he takes on an array of cases, including criminal and civil. Because of the judicial appointment however, Adams will has to suspend his law practice while on the bench.
He graduated from Port Arthur Lincoln High School in 1992 and in 2002 received his Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s School of Law in San Antonio.
Adams put his name in the ring for 252nd District Court after Judge Layne Walker stepped down in December, but withdrew his name a few days later.
Judge Davis, 74, died unexpectedly on Feb. 10. He was not running for reelection. He’d been judge in Court at-Law No. 3 since December 1989.
