Insurers sued over water damage at law offices

Insurance2

A Harris County woman has filed suit claiming her insurers failed to pay on a property damage claim.

Sandra Ferguson, doing business as Ferguson Firm, filed suit June 17 in Jefferson County District Court against Hartford Funds Distributors LLC and R.O. Williams & Co. Inc.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 1, 2011, the law firm at 1122 Orleans St., Beaumont, sustained significant damage while insured by the defendants.  Following the incident, Ferguson submitted a claim to the defendants to cover repair costs and the defendant hired an adjuster who did not properly inspect the damage and undervalued the cost of the damage, the suit states. To date the defendants have failed to pay any part of the claim, preventing the plaintiff from adequately repairing the damage, which amounts to fraud and a breach of contract, according to the suit.

Ferguson is seeking damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits. She is represented by Beaumont attorneys Clay Dugas and Cody Rees.
