German shipping companies sued after longshoreman injured at Port of Houston

Houston ship channel barbours cut port of houston

A Harris County man is suing over claims he was injured while working on a boat at the Port of Houston.

Sergio Rodriguez Magos filed a lawsuit June 27 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas against German shipping companies Waton Reederi Tamke GmbH & Co. K.G. and Transeste Schiffaht Gmbh.

According to the complaint, Magos was working as a rigger aboard the defendants' M/V Waton on Sept. 29, 2011, while it was docked at the Port of Houston.

Magos says he was using a lashing rod to secure a container when the boat moved, causing the rod to fall overboard, taking Magos with it.

Magos says he suffered injuries that required surgery to his feet, ankles and legs.

The defendants are accused of failing to provide a safe place to work and failing to maintain the boat's railings.

Magos is seeking damages and costs.

He is being represented in the case by attorneys Dennis L. Brown and Mike N. Cokins in Houston.
