Tyler County man sues over loss of thumb

Thumb

The manufacturers of a truck are being sued after the truck's door allegedly caused an injury.

Terry Vaughn filed suit July 2 in the Lufkin Division of the Eastern District of Texas against John Deere, also known as Deere and Co., and G.R. Manufacturing Inc.

According to the complaint, on May 8, 2013, Vaughn was climbing into the cab of a semi-truck designed by the defendants when the door slammed against his thumb.

The weight of the door caused Vaughn's thumb to be crushed, requiring amputation and ongoing therapy, the suit states.

The defendants are accused of being negligent in the design, manufacture, assembly, marketing, processing, forging and testing of the door for ordinary use.

Vaughn is seeking actual damages, interest and costs.

He is represented by Dallas attorneys E. Todd Tracy, Stewart D. Matthews and Andrew G. Counts of the Tracy Firm.
