A Galveston County resident is suing a motorist charging vehicular negligence following a 2013 collision allegedly caused by failure to obey a stop sign.

Maria Reyes of Texas City filed a lawsuit against Reynold Oscar Hernandez in Galveston County District Court on July 10, claiming liability in the July 2013 accident.

According to the suit, Hernandez crashed his vehicle into the plaintiff’s when he failed to comply with a stop sign on or about July 12, 2013, on 25th Street in Texas City.

Stating that she acted in a careful and prudent manner in accordance with traffic laws, Reyes alleges that the defendant failed to control his vehicle, keep a safe distance and proper lookout, apply brakes in a timely manner, turn his vehicle to avoid impact, and stop at a stop sign.

Reyes avers pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional trauma, past and future impairment, loss of household services and enjoyment of social and recreational activities, and medical expenses.

The plaintiff seeks between $100,000 and $200,000 in compensation for damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney’s fees, expenses, and costs. She is represented by Cynthia Frederick and Ronald Fitzgerald of The Frederick Law Firm in Houston.
