Million dollar suit bought against several boat charterers

2d658c46

The owners of a crude oil tanker vessel filed suit against several boat charterers seeking more than $1 million for a past due payment on the vessel.

PSARA Energy Ltd. filed suit against Space Shipping Ltd.; Advantage Anthem Shipping LLC.; Genel Denizcilik Nakliyati A.S., also known as Geden Lines; Advantage Tankers LLC; Advantage Holdings LLC; and Forward Holdings LLC in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas on Sept. 18.

PSARA claims it chartered its vessel, the CV Stealth, to Geden Lines and Space Shipping in a bareboat charter contract on Feb. 23, 2010, which both charterers have allegedly failed and refused to comply with. The complaint states that the owners of the rented vessel purport that the charterers are indebted in the sum of $926,250 for the rental fees associated with the months of July, August, and September.

The lawsuit states that although the charterers have not made payment, they still are in possession and use of the chartered vessel.

Both are being accused of breach of maritime contract.

The plaintiff is seeking $1,183,088 in damages, which includes $926,250 for past due rental fees, $56,838 in interest, and $200,000 in legal fees.

PSARA Energy Ltd.. is being represented by George A. Gaitas and Briton P. Sparkman of Chalos & Co. P.C. in Houston.
