Texas man sues Choice Exploration, alleging negligence in well blowout

Oildrill

A Texas man is suing an oil and gas exploration company, alleging negligence for injuries he says he sustained while working at one of its well sites.

Antonio Castillo filed a complaint Oct. 6 in Jefferson County District Court against Choice Exploration, alleging negligence.

The complaint states on Oct. 16, 2014, while Castillo was employed by Streamline Production Systems and was performing work at Choice Exploration's Bayou Estates well site in Jefferson County, a blowout occurred from one of the wells, causing severe burns and nerve damage to Castillo.

The suit says Choice Exploration was negligent in failing to provide a safe place to work, failing to coordinate work to be performed in a safe manner, failing to enforce safety programs and regulations, failing to inspect the work site to make sure it was safe, and failing to remedy and warn of a dangerous condition.

As a result, the lawsuit states the plaintiff was seriously injured, and has sustained pain and suffering, loss of earnings and earning capacity, medical expenses, physical impairment and disfigurement, and loss of enjoyment of life.

Castillo seeks more than $1 million in monetary relief, plus interests, court costs and attorney fees. He is represented by attorney Taylor W. Miller of Reaud, Morgan & Quinn in Beaumont.

Jefferson County District Court case number A-197881.
